History of Riverside Cricket Club:
In the summer of 1986 a bunch of guys from Guyana, South America got together and formed the Riverside Cricket Club (RCC), unaware that they were making history by laying the foundations of a club that would one day become the dominant force of cricket in the Connecticut Cricket League and the North East Region of USA.
Although the club started with humble beginnings and little funding but the vision was to develop facilities and grounds to play cricket, promote and enhance competition while catering for cricketers of all ages, abilities, race, religion, nationality and gender. Today, we can look back and proclaim that we have realized that vision and are well on our to way to kick it up a notch.
Altough the foundation of RCC was laid down by men who shared their homeland with the likes of Chanderpaul, Sarwan, Clive Lloyd, Lance Gibbs, Colin Croft, Roy Fredricks, Alvin Kallicharan and the great Rohan Kanhai, over the years Riverside Cricket Club has been represented by players from India, Srilanka, Barbados and Pakistan to name a few.
Since its inception in 1986, RCC has been at the forefront of Cricket in Connecticut. RCC is the only Grandslam Champion in Connecticut Cricket League when in 2000 RCC won the Connecticut Cricket League Championship, The Saturday League Championship and the Six-A-Side Championship. This feat has not been duplicated and cannot be duplicated as after 2000 the cricket clubs in the southern region of Connecticut split up from the Connecticut Cricket League to establish the Southern Connecticut Cricket League (which by the way is floursihing and growing, a good sign for cricket).
Riverside Cricket Club has also been involved in some pioneering efforts such as the first club in Connecitcut to play with colored clothes, first club in Connecticut to play night cricket, RCC is the force behind taking the entire Connecticut Cricket League to colored clothing in 2008. RCC players have consistently earned spots in inter-league and state teams. RCC members over the years have consitently taken an active role in the league administration and umpires association. RCC website is probably among the oldest cricket website in USA as we went online the day the world went online back in the dark ages of 1994-1995.
Last but not least the Riverside Cricket Annual Presentation Awards Dinner and Dance is off-the wall, off-the hook, off-the chain and outta this world. RCC is famous for its annual Caribana Cricket Tour to Toronto and Thanksgving Tour to Florida 15 years in a row. It would be suffice to say that Riverside Cricket Club has become one of the most dominant forces of cricket in Connecticut and the Northeastern Region of USA. Promoting not just cricket but the culture that goes with it. This evolution of RCC from a cub to a hungry TIGER is due to the sheer determination and hard work of its members, and is in perfect harmony with the mission of RCC.
So if you are interested and happen to be traveling during summer on I-91 North between exit 31 and 33 near Hartford, CT USA. Look over your right and you will see the SAVANNAH, the favorite hunting ground of RCC Tigers. Come on down and watch this rare species of tigers, which hunts in a pack of 11, demolish an unwilling prey!!!
